The Bilora Blitz Box camera is the second camera I’m using in 2024. This simple box-type camera was produced in Germany between 1948 and 1954. It has a very rudimentary focusing wheel on the front lens, and two viewfinders to accommodate for either vertical or landscape shots. Focus is a guess, as there is no way to verify via a rangefinder or similar system.
For this month, I used exclusively black and white film. Kodak T-Max 400 from the 80s and 90s for the first 16 days, and fresh T-Max 400 for the final 13 days.
I like the aesthetic abilities of this camera quite a bit, with fuzzy glowy images, and a slow shutter speed. There are absolutely some good images from this month. On the other hand, the slow shutter makes shooting handheld a real gamble. Lots of shots were framed by guessing as well - as the only viewfinder is a waist-level finder. Sometimes you just can't pull far enough back to see the finder properly.
This is a fun little piece of history, but I think it’ll remain in my collection as a talking point and medium for specific projects rather than a common shooter. I commend the photographers of the past for their contribution, and wave it a wincing farewell as I move on to greener pastures!
